Modular hip prosthesis is for prosthetics after above-knee amputation. It consists of a stump socket with vacuum fastening, socket and other adapters, knee unit, load-bearing modules, and foot. When putting on a hip prosthesis, an elastic bandage or a special broaching cover is used: air is pumped out using an air valve, which allows tight fixing of the socket on the stump. To remove the prosthesis, simply open the valve, let the air in and remove the stump. It is possible to have a hip prosthesis attached to a silicone liner, but the need for a liner can only be determined by a prosthetist, as it depends on the condition of the stump.
The primary hip prosthesis (therapeutic and training) is used during the first 6-12 months of wearing the prosthesis, until the stump gets its constant size. Primary prostheses always come with fastening elements that back up the prosthesis when the stump “dries out”, for example, a knee pad or an elastic bandage.
