Orthopedic Cheneau corset

description
characteristic
specifications

Cheneau corset is an orthopedic corset used to correct and restore the functions of the spine in case of its diseases (most often scoliosis).

The corset exerts pressure on areas of the body that are convex due to deformation, thereby aligning and bringing them to an anatomically correct position. It looks like a hard plastic sleeve. Inside it there are pressure zones, opposite to which there are expansion zones represented by holes (chambers). These chambers will move tissue in the desired direction during the correction process. The corset is fastened with straps (Velcro).

To ensure comfort, it is recommended to wear a thin T-shirt under the corset. The corset is put on while standing. It is fastened in a lying position; this allows relieving the spine and taking the most correct position. When the patient gets the corset, the adaptation process begins, each day the wearing time increases. Within 1-3 weeks the patient needs to reach 18-23 hours of wearing a corset per day.

When using a corset, it is very important to monitor the condition of your skin. During the period of using the corset, the patient should be under supervision of an orthopedist and orthotist. The patient should be examined at least once every three months to correct the corset and monitor the progress. As changes in the spine occur, the corset is replaced (approximately once every six months). Duration of wearing the corset and use of additional treatment methods are determined by the doctor individually for each patient, taking into account the maturity of bones (Risser test), severity of the deformity and its progression.

Before making a corset, the patient must be examined by a surgeon and receive a referral for a Cheneau corset. Next, the patient’s body is scanned using a 3D scanner. Using special software, a 3D model is created, based on which the corset itself will be manufactured. The finished corset is finally adjusted to the patient by the orthotist.

In addition, patients undergo a course of treatment, which includes physical therapy, massage and correction, with subsequent replacement of the corset following the patient’s growth and positive dynamics.

Indications

– the patient has a scoliotic curve of 15-60° according to Cobb (mainly with Risser test less than 5)

– the patient has pathological kyphosis

– the corset is to be worn as preoperative preparation

– the corset is to be worn as maintenance therapy after surgery
