Long-Awaited Prosthesis for a Young Ukrainian Athlete
Today, we’ll tell you about a remarkable young man, Yehor Harmash. At the age of three, Yehor was hit by a car, and as a result, doctors had to amputate his leg. He had to relearn how to live and walk with the help of a prosthesis.
Yehor grew up as an incredibly active child. He now participates in academic rowing and workout training, performing various stunts. In 2016, he took part in the show Ukraine’s Got Talent Kids-2.
In August 2017, Yehor began professional academic rowing in Dnipro. By May 2019, he participated in a regatta in Italy, winning silver and bronze medals. In June 2019, he competed in the 2nd World Cup, followed by the 3rd World Cup in July 2019, where he won a silver medal. Yehor leads a very active lifestyle.
In 2018, the Slava Frolova Foundation contacted the Prosthetic and Orthopedic Care Center «Tellus» with a request to create the most modern prosthesis for Yehor so he could maintain his usual way of life.
The Tellus Center has been in the market since 1998. All its products are custom-made using modern technologies, including 3D. The Tellus team comprises highly qualified and certified specialists, trusted by clients for over 20 years. Modern equipment, the best imported materials and components, and a team of certified technicians distinguish this center from others.
After studying Yehor’s case, including his anthropometric data and active lifestyle, the Tellus team selected one of the best microprocessor units from Ottobock — C-Leg (Germany) — for the prosthesis.
The C-Leg is a reliable and advanced prosthetic system for lower limbs, enabling the user to perform movements as naturally as possible and maintain an active lifestyle.
To raise the funds for such a prosthesis, the foundation, in partnership with the charitable organization “Helping is Simple,” launched a fundraiser. Within six months, the entire amount was raised. For consultation and prosthesis assembly, the Association of Prosthetic and Orthopedic Enterprises “ORTONET,” together with the Tellus team, invited one of Ottobock’s leading technicians. Together, they successfully created Yehor’s prosthesis.
Yehor is now learning to walk with his new prosthesis in the rehabilitation hall at the Prosthetic and Orthopedic Care Center «Tellus».
