Never get down, because the human body is capable of many things!

On January 8, 2020, our client Alina and her husband were very late for work and literally jumped into the departing service bus. The seats on which they always sat were free. And here nothing foreshadowed trouble and sharp 2 blows….

The realization that it was an accident came almost immediately. The ambulance came and Alina’s husband reassured her that it was just a fracture.

At the hospital, in the operating room, Alina was told immediately – “Amputation”. She didn’t have time to realize that she had passed out. She woke up in the intensive care department. To the surprise of many, Alina took the information about amputation quite adequately. At that moment she was very worried about her husband and why he did not come to her. But he was under an IV.

Alina’s leg was amputated below the knee and she was in 4th degree traumatic shock.

“My husband and I joked that now we will save money on pedicures, my foot won’t freeze in winter,” Alina says.

But her treatment did not end there. Necrosis opened up and Alina was urgently transferred to the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Hospital named after Mechnikov, where they tried to save the stump and removed the affected skin.

The doctors insisted on amputation above the knee, but Alina and her relatives did not agree, because there was a small chance to save the knee. They found a very good surgeon who agreed to take responsibility and graft skin onto Alina’s stump. She was scared that it was a complicated operation and she would not be able to walk on a prosthesis. But the operation took only an hour and was a success.

The skin was taking root and Alina was recovering in the meantime. Before the accident, she had been doing fly-fitting. It’s beautiful elements on canvases. In the hospital she did stretching and went to the gym.

⠀“A psychologist helped me a lot with phantom pains, because this pain is in our head, a psychologist helps to treat what is in our head” – Alina tells us.

And after 3 months in the hospital, Alina was discharged, but her wounds were not completely healed and she had to do dressings every day at home. But this did not prevent her from resuming fly-fitness training and going to the gym.

“All the wounds healed and could be engaged in prosthetics, many prosthetic centers do not want to work with transplanted skin, they say to walk on the prosthesis I will not be able to” – Alina sadly shares with us.

One day in social networks Alina received a message from Tetiana Vorotilina, our trainer. Alina has a very similar situation with skin grafting on her stump.
Then Alina contacted Tellus, we helped her to get all the necessary documents to get a free prosthetic limb.

Alina:
– I would like to say that after having a prosthetic limb fitted at the Tellus
prosthetic center, I have the impression that there are no barriers for the staff and technicians to create a comfortable and functional lower leg prosthesis. I would like to express my gratitude to the whole team for giving me the opportunity to live a full life. Thanks to you there are new plans and goals in life. I would like to wish people who have had a misfortune never to lose heart, because the human body is capable of many things, just we have not discovered it yet.
