Don’t be afraid to be yourself!
We would like to tell the story of our beautiful client Olena Diachenko. She came to us from Kirovohrad region. When we first met her, she was very shy about her prosthesis.
Olena:
“Hiding … When I was in college and I lived in a dormitory and the girls who lived in the room with me didn’t know I had a prosthesis, maybe they guessed. I was often asked and I didn’t answer, it was embarrassing to talk about it.
In the morning I got dressed and went to study, in the afternoon I had a quick snack and studied again. Only quietly at night did I let myself take off my prosthesis and rest. I put it next to my bed and covered it so that no one would notice. And sometimes I hid it under the covers.
I was ashamed of just being myself. I don’t even know why I did that, maybe I thought it was my flaw, that’s why I did it. Or maybe I just didn’t want to be seen as a handicapped person, looked at with pity. Accepting and loving myself is not always easy and it took me a while, or rather a few years …”
After a while, Lena managed to overcome these feelings and a new page in her life opened up. She was inspired by the examples of many people with amputations and realized that she should not be ashamed of her leg. The prosthesis is just a tool that helps to return to a normal way of life, to do active sports, dancing and many other activities Amputees are especially strong-willed, and you want to admire them and follow their achievements.
Lena found out about our center through our Instagram page. We made her a functional prosthesis in bright orange and it suits her so well!
After coming to us in Odessa, Elena’s life changed very sharply because she made the decision to stay in our city.
You ask, what about work, housing? No problem, we answer. If a person wants to but can’t, it means he doesn’t really want to! (Mark Twain)
And our staff at Tellus Center is always happy to all our clients and rejoices at each of their achievements! We wish Olena to realize all her dreams and desires soon!
Don’t try to box yourself in, don’t shy away from your prosthetic limb, and be happy!
