City Program “Equality”! In Odesa, people with disabilities can receive a highly functional prosthesis with enhanced components funded by the city budget!

The majority of people with disabilities are unable to actively participate in society due to physical barriers in their environment and physiological limitations. They face challenges accessing public and civic facilities, infrastructure, transportation, road services, and prosthetics suitable for their level of activity.

Based on these challenges, the City Program “Equality” was implemented for 2016–2019 to achieve the following goals:

  • Adapt the infrastructure of Odesa to meet the needs of people with physical disabilities;
  • Provide ongoing social rehabilitation, wellness programs, and employment opportunities for people with disabilities;
  • Promote sports events among individuals with special needs.

As part of this initiative, clients of the Tellus Center for Prosthetic and Orthopedic Care, including Tetiana Vorotylina, submitted the necessary documents requesting prostheses with enhanced components to enable a full and active lifestyle.

Through this program, Tetiana will receive a lower-leg prosthesis with a running foot, the Ottobock 1E90 (Germany), funded by the “Equality” city program for 2016–2019, approved by the Odesa City Council.

Tetiana leads a highly active lifestyle: she is a Master of Sports, a tennis and fitness coach, and a trainer at the Tellus Center. At just 26 years old, despite losing her leg, Tetiana continues to live life to the fullest. She has already participated in 13 half-marathons and 2 full marathons, practices yoga and dancing, and expertly teaches others how to walk and run with a prosthesis. She ran 42.195 km at the 2019 Wizz Air Kyiv City Marathon, setting a Ukrainian record on her prosthesis.

The Ottobock 1E90 lower-leg prosthesis with a running foot offers high functional capabilities, enhanced anthropological, ergonomic, and cosmetic properties, allowing individuals to pursue their favorite sport — running — without limitations. This prosthesis effortlessly restores the ability to handle high physical loads and helps Tetiana, as well as anyone else, improve their quality of life in sports, confidently conquer new challenges, and fully embrace an active lifestyle.

The decision-making commission consisted of 11 members. Many documents were reviewed for two candidates during the commission’s session, and a unanimous positive decision was made.

Our second client will receive a silicone foot prosthesis under this program, which will be custom-made by specialists from France. This client is a doctor who makes a significant contribution by providing medical assistance, including to ATO (Anti-Terrorist Operation) soldiers!

Additionally, five more of our clients have applied under this program, and we hope they will also pass the commission! We’ll share updates with you later.

The Tellus Center is not just a team of employees — it is a group of dedicated individuals who do everything possible to ensure that people with disabilities wear the most comfortable prostheses, undergo rehabilitation, and return to a full and active life.
