On November 6, 2015, an ATO Veteran Received a Bionic Forearm Prosthesis

For the first time in Ukraine, a bionic forearm prosthesis was successfully fitted. The recipient was 40-year-old serviceman Serhii Voropai, a father of two, who was injured during the ATO (Anti-Terrorist Operation). He lost his hand in eastern Ukraine when a grenade landed in the tent where he and nine fellow soldiers were having dinner. Serhii heroically lifted the grenade above his head, saving the lives of everyone in the tent. This bionic prosthesis was provided to the hero under a state-funded program for free prosthetics for ATO participants.

The prosthetic features 14 finger movement algorithms, allowing for gripping objects and performing daily tasks. It was designed to enable individuals with limb loss to regain essential functional abilities, such as picking up small objects, writing, typing on a keyboard, using a mouse, cooking, and even tying shoelaces.
Serhii is still adapting to his bionic prosthetic arm, but he is already demonstrating impressive control. He has successfully performed finger flexion and extension, squeezed a ball, attempted to solve a Rubik’s Cube, and showcased his drawings and handwriting exercises.
